On its own it is refractory, while small amounts in stoneware porcelain bodies can help vitrification. It is commonly used in low fire clay bodies, particularly those used for slip casting. In glazes, talc contributes magnesium oxide (MgO), which can produce matte surfaces and influence colour response. Additionally, it helps control thermal expansion,
